Head of Security for President Akufo-Addo, Capt. Kojo Koda, has caused the impoundment of two private cars belonging former Presidential Advisor on Corruption and Governance in the Mahama Government, Daniel Batidam.
Allegedly at the express behest of Koda, armed Policemen, on Wednesday night, stormed the house of the man whose burial took place just a fortnight ago, to tow away a Toyota Camry and a Mitsubishi Pajero car.
A total of six heavily armed Police officers and two civilians are said to have undertaken the nocturnal operation. When they got to the house and the garage in which the cars were parked was lost, they refused to wait for the bearer of the keys to turn up.
They forcibly broke into the garage for the vehicles. The Toyota Camry was movable because its handbrake was off, and so they towed it away, while leaving instructions to the family that they tow the Pajero to the Adenta Police Station by close of today.
A family member has since been forced to write a statement. Interestingly, the two cars were the private property of the late Daniel Batidam, who until his appointment by President Mahama as advisor on corruption, had been head of the Ghana Integrity Initiative.
Documents covering the cars prove that Mr. Batidam had bought the Toyota Camry for a total of Ghc37,000. the car had been his official car and so had been given first right to purchase it. The State Transport Company had valued it at Ghc25,000, after which Mr. Batidam was made to pay an extra Ghc12,000 before ownership was transferred to him.
For the Mitsubishi Pajero, documents show that he bought it from Malin Investment Company Limited in September 2019, nearly three years after he had left office. This particular car was imported into the country for Mr. Batidam.
However, the Police officers who stormed his house, Gestapo style to seize the cars have claimed that the cars were State cars. It was their leader, one Kwabena Ahinkra, who revealed that they were acting on orders from Capt. Kojo Koda.
Mr. Daniel Batidam served as Advisor on Corruption for President Mahama until the NDC lost power in 2017.
His family says it has been traumatized by the night raid. Following his burial two weeks ago, the family is yet to decide on a date to take stock of his estate.
