The current Ashanti Regional Chairman of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Anwti Boasiako (Wuntumi) has revealed that former President John Mahama approached him in 2013 to use his “intelligence” and money to support his government.
According to the Chairman fingered for illegal mining operations, (Galamsey), he was invited to a meeting with the then President Mahama in Tamale in the Northern Region where he made the overtures.
Wuntumi, who was speaking in an interview with Paul Adom-Otchere of Metro TV, said he rejected Mr. Mahama’s proposal because he was a member of the NPP and for him, his party was like a religious cult that he must not betray.
“President Mahama said to me that: ‘Young man,
you are too intelligent and, so, come to the NDC to support me,” said Wuntumi
who made a fantastic claim that he was making US$ 1 million daily from his gold
mining operations.
“normal for a politician to tell a businessman to say: ‘Come and support me’
but I said to him that: ‘I see politics as a religion and given the place I
come from, even if you have money and power and you don’t belong to NPP, it is
very dangerous, so, I told him, ‘Mr President, I don’t want to,” said Wuntumi.
“I will never lie and Mahama knows this”, he told Paul Adom-Otchere, adding: “I
went there with the now-Bosomtwi NPP Chairman at the Regional Minister’s
residence.”
Wuntumi thinks it was because of this refusal that the then ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration led by John Mahama collapsed his gold mining business.
Whatsup News gathered that Wuntumi is the source of Chinese illegal miners in Ghana. Before the influx of the Chinese many of whom worked for Wuntumi, galamsey operators used rudimentary equipment in their activities.
The Chinese changed the game by bringing aboard huge earth-moving machines such as excavators.
