UN peacekeepers wounded in Mali rocket attack

A rocket attack on a UN base in Mali’s northern region of Kidal has wounded 20 people, including 18 UN peacekeepers, a UN spokesperson has told the BBC.

Six peacekeepers have been seriously injured in the attack by unknown assailants shortly after 06:00 GMT, he said.

On Wednesday, the UN envoy for the region told the UN Security Council that attacks in the Sahel had increased five-fold since 2016.
