In a riveting turn of events at the special probing session convened by Alban Bagbin, Speaker of Parliament, the investigation into the disturbances at the Appointments Committee faced an unexpected hurdle.
The committee, spearheaded by Ho West MP Emmanuel Bedzrah, came to a screeching halt yesterday as key witnesses were being questioned about the mayhem that ensued, causing destruction to property.
With five majority members present, the minority side saw only one representative participate, leaving Former Minister Abena Osei Asare notably absent without explanation.
As the committee delved into the chaos that unfolded during the vetting process, notable figures such as Bernard Ahiafor, Kwame Agboza, Dzifa Abla Gomashie, Mahama Ayariga, Emmanuel Kofi Ntekuni, and Kwame Dzudzorli Gakpey were called to testify.
However, the session took an unexpected turn when Clerk to Parliament Ebenezer Azumah Djietro intervened, prompting the abrupt suspension of the proceedings on the grounds of an in-camera session request by Mrs Gifty Jaggie-Gobah.
Furthermore, Vice Chair Kwame Anyimadu-Antwi exited the session following instructions allegedly received from Minority Leader Afenyo-Matkin, citing the confidential nature of the inquiry that should not be publicized.
The committee, which includes members such as Gizella Akushika Tetteh-Agbotui, Zaenator Agyeman-Rawlings, Vincent Oppong Asamoah, and Bede Anwataazuma Ziedeng, was given a 10-day timeline to furnish its findings, but uncertainties loom over the resumption of its activities and the involvement of witnesses in the secretive proceedings.
As the saga continues to unfold, Speaker Bagbin’s quest for truth in the aftermath of the vetting fiasco faces new twists and turns.
