As Bosses Abandon NPP Ship for NDC Lifeboat

The current acting Managing Director (MD) of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), David Asamoah, has reportedly performed a complete 180-degree turn in his political allegiance.

The once fervent New Patriotic Party (NPP) supporter is now on bended knee, earnestly courting the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) for permanent confirmation in his role.

Sources claim that Asamoah is leaving no stone unturned in his bid to secure the nod from President John Dramani Mahama.

He is said to be making the rounds at the residences of influential NDC figures, imploring them to push for his official appointment as the MD.

His meteoric rise to the top spot at ECG occurred on September 26, 2024, following the abrupt departure of his predecessor, Samuel Dubik Mahama.

The Acting MD’s sudden political conversion has left many baffled, including the former NPP stalwart and Majority Leader, Alex Afenyo-Markin, who has not minced words in denouncing Asamoah’s apparent political opportunism.

Afenyo-Markin expressed his shock and disappointment at the Acting MD’s flip-flop, labeling it as a display of “political hypocrisy,” “greed,” and “double standards.”

He revealed that Asamoah had previously professed allegiance to the NPP during the Akufo-Addo administration, only to now claim affinity with the NDC.

Furthermore, the Acting MD reportedly has a comrade in Moses Okley, the Head of Finance at ECG, who has also purportedly switched sides from his former NPP affiliation to champion the cause of the NDC.

Afenyo-Markin disclosed that both Asamoah and Okley collaborated in obstructing the appointment of a qualified individual for a position within the company, raising serious concerns about their integrity and ethics.

The dismayed former board chairman emphasized the importance of staying true to one’s principles and values, cautioning against the pitfalls of political expediency.

He called on the NDC leadership to take note of such opportunistic behaviors and prioritize the recognition of steadfast party members over transient converts.

As key leadership positions within state institutions remain vacant, stakeholders are closely watching how the unfolding power dynamics will impact the selection process.

With key entities like the Ghana Grid Company (GRiDCo) and the Volta River Authority (VRA) yet to appoint new heads, the spotlight is on President Mahama and his administration to make decisions that reflect loyalty and meritocracy in their appointments.
