MAHAMA URGES NEW MINISTERS TO TRANSPARENTLY REVEAL SECTOR CHALLENGES

President John Dramani Mahama, following the inauguration of the first batch of appointees on Wednesday January 21, has called on the new ministers of state to candidly disclose the issues within their respective sectors to the Ghanaian public. In light of the recent crises faced by Ghana, the President emphasized the importance of openness and transparency in addressing challenges in critical areas such as energy and education.

While acknowledging the pre-existing economic difficulties, President Mahama urged the ministers to provide an accurate assessment of the current state in their sectors as they work towards solutions. The President officiated the swearing-in ceremony of six ministerial nominees at the Jubilee House.

The newly appointed ministers include Haruna Iddrisu for Education, Dr. Cassiel Ato Baah Forson for Finance, John Jinapor for Energy and Green Transition, Dr. Dominic Ayine as Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Governs Kwame Agbodza for Roads and Highways, and Eric Opoku for Food and Agriculture. Each minister was encouraged to address the pressing issues within their portfolio.

President Mahama highlighted the importance of justice reform under the stewardship of the Attorney General to ensure accountability and transparency in governance. He stressed the need for fair and equitable justice delivery for all citizens, especially in cases of misappropriation of state funds.

Addressing the energy sector, President Mahama praised Minister Jinapor for his efforts in averting a power crisis. He emphasized the challenges faced in ensuring the continuous power supply, especially in light of the recent fuel shortages. The President commended the proactive measures taken to mitigate the threat of power outages and secure the energy sector’s stability.

Regarding education, the President assigned Minister Haruna Iddrisu the task of spearheading initiatives outlined during the government’s campaign, including the National Review Conference to address educational challenges comprehensively. President Mahama expressed confidence in the Minister’s ability to enhance the quality of education and equip young individuals with essential skills for the workforce.

In light of recent food shortages, President Mahama highlighted the efforts to address immediate challenges and secure long-term solutions for food supply in schools. He acknowledged the pending arrears to food suppliers and assured ongoing efforts to settle these outstanding payments.

Turning to the Food and Agriculture Ministry, President Mahama directed Minister Eric Opoku to prioritize affordability and accessibility of food for all citizens. He emphasized the importance of ensuring a stable food supply to meet the population’s needs.

For the Roads and Highways Ministry, the President acknowledged the demanding task ahead for Minister Kwame Agbodza in maintaining and expanding the road network. He emphasized the significance of providing well-constructed roads for efficient transportation across the country.
