Exposé: Squandering Millions While Bawku Suffers – MP Slams National Security Minister

In a startling revelation, Member of Parliament (MP) for Bawku Central has accused the National Security Minister, Albert Kan Dapaah, of receiving a jaw-dropping GHc6 million monthly allocation, totaling GHc18 million per quarter, purportedly to address the enduring conflict in Bawku, Upper East Region.

The deep-rooted chieftaincy discord in Bawku has wreaked havoc over the years, claiming numerous lives, decimating properties, and necessitating intermittent curfews.

Former President John Dramani Mahama, the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, steered clear of the region during a recent visit on security advice.

Expressing anguish over the dire poverty and continuous turmoil in Bawku, the MP decried the lack of tangible improvements despite the substantial funding allocated to the Minister.

Speaking to Woezor Television during Mr. Mahama’s regional visit, the lawmaker challenged Mr. Kan Dapaah to refute the allegations, vowing to provide evidence if contradicted.

“This is scandalous, unfair, and inappropriate, as the NPP government channels millions purportedly to solve Bawku’s problems, yet the underlying issues persist,” asserted the incensed MP.

He pointed out how security concerns had hindered Mr. Mahama’s visit, necessitating alternative routes to avoid triggering volatile situations due to enthusiastic supporters.

Amidst these challenges, the MP lamented the exorbitant sums funneled to tackle the Bawku crisis without tangible results, emphasizing the disconnect between allocated funds and actual outcomes.

The revelation raises critical questions about the efficiency and transparency of government initiatives aimed at resolving enduring conflicts.
