AG in Hot Water Over Failed Ambulance Trial

The Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Godfred Yeboah Dame, is facing intense scrutiny following a significant legal setback in a politically charged case at the Appeal Court on Tuesday, July 30.

Private legal practitioner and social commentator, Martin Kpebu, has publicly called out Mr. Dame, urging him to vigorously pursue the retrieval of funds reportedly promised by Big Sea Trading LLC, the overseas company embroiled in the controversial ambulance trial.

Big Sea Trading LLC, in a bid to salvage its reputation, expressed readiness to refund €2 million to the state, pointing out the risks posed by the trial.

However, the Attorney General’s Office rejected these terms, citing reasons such as the inadequacy of the proposed amount in compensating for the state’s losses due to the procurement of 30 allegedly ‘defective’ ambulances.

In response to the recent legal tussle, Mr. Kpebu stressed the importance of retrieving the funds from Big Sea, emphasizing that failure to do so could lead to potential criminal prosecution for causing financial loss to the state for Mr. Dame.

Moreover, Mr. Kpebu emphasized the significance of the Appeal Court’s decision to acquit and discharge Minority Leader Ato Forson and businessman Richard Jakpa, lauding it as a positive development that saved the country from embarrassment.

During a virtual appearance on TV3’s Keypoints program, Mr. Kpebu asserted his commitment to ensuring that the Attorney General pursued the funds’ recovery diligently, highlighting the potential consequences if action is not taken promptly.

The legal battle surrounding the ambulance trial has not only sparked intense legal deliberations but has also shed light on alleged misconduct, prompting calls for thorough investigations into the matter.

The ongoing legal saga continues to captivate the public’s attention, raising questions about accountability within the justice system.
