Defunct DKM Owner Spotted Campaigning with NPP’s Bawumia

Dr. Martin Kuunige Delle, former Chief Executive Officer of the defunct DKM microfinance institution, has resurfaced in the political arena, this time seen actively participating in the campaign of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Videos circulating show Dr. Delle engaging with NPP’s flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, during a campaign event in the Nandon constituency of the Northern Region. In a surprising gesture, Dr. Delle was observed presenting a traditional northern smock to the Vice President.

This recent development has reignited old allegations linking the collapse of DKM to former First Lady, Lordina Mahama, who was previously accused of owning the troubled financial company.

Notably, Dr. Delle’s involvement in NPP activities has been documented in the past, with footage from a health walk in 2020 showing him wearing NPP attire alongside the local MP.

Responding to criticism over Dr. Delle’s actions, the NPP in the Nandon constituency defended him, asserting that his presentation of the smock to Dr. Bawumia was part of a royal assignment bestowed upon him by the Chief of Nandon.

The party emphasized that Dr. Delle’s participation in public events was within his legal rights and highlighted statements from Interior Minister Ambrose Dery affirming his innocence.

The NPP also clarified the establishment and regulatory history of DKM, noting its licensing by the Bank of Ghana as a tier two microfinance company and subsequent clearance following a forensic audit in 2016.

Refusing to address past claims linking the company to the Mahama family, the party underscored Dr. Delle’s legal standing and the absence of any criminal conviction against him.

In light of these developments, the NPP has sought to distance Dr. Delle’s actions from the official campaign activities of the party, maintaining that his involvement was driven by his royal duties and personal freedoms upheld by law.
