…CPP Demands Apology and resignation
Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia’s running mate for the 2024 presidential elections, Mathew Opoku Prempeh, alias Napo, is currently most contemptible Ghanaian alive.
Scorn from all directions is being heaped on the arrogant Energy Minister, who out of apparent over-excitement at his official outdooring as Bawumia’s running mate, shot off his mouth in a desecrating claim that the most corrupt and inept president in Ghana’s history, Akufo-Addo, has actually done more for Ghana than everyone who came before him, including the iconic Kwame Nkrumah.
Among those who have put Napo’s claim down to comic relief is Franklin Cudjoe, President of IMANI Africa.
In a social media response, Mr. Cudjoe in absolute parody, writes; ““President Nana Addo has done more for Ghana than all our presidents since Independence in 1957” – NAPOO; “the NPP Government has done more for the economy than the NDC” – Bawumia.

Former Energy Minister and MP for Ellembelle, Hon. Armah Kofi Buah has also demanded a retraction from Napo saying the comparison of Akufo-Addo to Nkrumah is a denigration of the Osagyefo.
However, a sterner demand has come from President Nkrumah’s party, the Convention Peoples Party (CPP) which demanded that the foul mouth Napo apologize or president Akufo-Addo removes him from office.
“The Convention People’s Party calls on the Honourable Minister, within 24 hours, to do the ‘Honourable’ thing for the sake of the Country’s image, and immediately resign from all Governmental and political positions, and issue an immediate apology and retraction.
“Failing which the party calls on His Excellency President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, to withdraw the Hon. Minister from his position as Minister of Energy, and also calls on His Excellency Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to withdraw him as his Vice Presidential candidate, for the sake of the Country’s image, and its long term political and economic fortunes. Ghanaians and Nkrumaist’s worldwide, will have no choice but to hit the streets to register their displeasure if the above, or similar measures, are not immediately enforced within 24 hours,” the CPP demanded in a prompt statement.
Napo the illusionist
The whole faux pas by Napo, who only became running mate because he is Ashanti and the Bawumia campaign team wants to appease the party’s Ashanti base, happened in Kumasi.
During his outdooring, he claimed that Akufo-Addo, who in the estimation of most Ghanaians is the worst president ever in the entire history of the country, has done more for the country than any other president, including president Kwame Nkrumah.
“I can boldly say that if the history of Ghana is told from 1957, we have never had a president that has helped Ghana more than Nana Akufo-Addo. I mean from 1957, even including your Kwame Nkrumah, none of them has protected Ghana and developed the country more than Nana Akufo-Addo,” he said at his official unveiling event at the Jubilee Park in Kumasi on July 9, 2024.
Dr Opoku Prempeh stressed that, “President Akufo-Addo has developed this country to the admiration of all. Therefore, we will not allow what happened in 2008 to repeat itself. It will be most appropriate for Nana Akufo-Addo to hand over to his junior brother, Dr Bawumia,” Napo spewed.
The grotesque irony involved in the claim has sent many Ghanaians convulsing with anger but also indicated that the notoriously arrogant Napo is no where near respected the advice of the Asantehene, Otumfuor Osei Tutu ll, who had advised him to shirk his arrogance, just before he headed on to stage to desecrate Nkrumah’s memory.
