It is emerging that the suspect in the Kasoa Millennium City shooting that claimed the life of a soldier Michael Danso, apparently rode on police ‘visibility’ motorbike to the scene to execute the dastardly act on Tuesday April 30.
Benlord Ababio who is now in the grips of the police was allegedly brought on the bike by a police officer for a meeting between the decease, himself and seller of the controversial land at the Millennium City police station.
Apparently, that wasn’t even the first time the suspect was seen on a motorbike belonging to the police administration and it wasn’t the first time he is shooting at people.
An estate developer and building contractor Patrick Winnebo Ndego, who has levelled series of allegations has also roped in the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, whose name Benlord and his boss Kwasi Alhaji (Nana Kwasi Quansah) have allegedly been using to foment trouble in the community with the suspect.
Winnebo Ndebo who admits his life is in danger described himself as one of the main victims of Kwasi Alhaji and Benlord.
According to him, the duo have been on his case for years scheming to take his 2500 acreage of land and because he has been resisting their request, he is subjected to periodic extortions, and severe beatings and threats to kill him.
Occasionally, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Winnebo Construction Company Limited said Kwasi sends Benlord to extort money from him and other times, together with their boys beat him to pulp pulling guns on him amidst threats to eliminate him.
Speaking on the April 30 incident in a recent interview, Winnebo Nedgo who regretted the incident said he was the main target of Benlord.
One Kwasi Alhaji who is the Mankralo at Gomoa Fetteh, sent Benlord to come and cause this incident. He beats people, seize lands which I am a victim. I was their main target. This is not the first time they have also pointed a gun at me. The day they shot the soldier, their boys also beat me up and pulled a gun on me but immediately I shouted at him, God being so good, a police vehicle emerged from nowhere with siren which forced them to stop. But for that, they would have killed me.”
He said these endless harassments and threats to life are what pushed him to petition the IGP but unfortunately, the issues he raised are yet to be resolved.
Portions of the petition sighted by WhatSup News implicated the IGP and some of his officers at the district level.
Parts of the petition sighted by WhatSup News, read “Request for immediate enquiry and investigations into the activities of one Kwasi Alhaji aka Nana Kwasi Quansah of Gomoa Fetteh towards Patrick Winnebo Ndago ably supported by Superintendent Owusu Dwomoh, CID Kezia and Station Officer Senyo, all of Central East Region Pentecost”.
Point 29 of the petition said “That it was at that meeting that Kwasi Alahji said the land in question is for his grandparents and again threatened to kill the petitioner if he steps foot on the land in the presence of the police all present.
That your petitioner has been threatened by Kwasi Alhaji on numerous occasions and it will interest you to know that the police is aware of it but are reluctant in taking any action against him. He has on many occasions said that he is IGP’s boy and that can even complain to IGP and nothing will happen to him”.
The contractor said even though Dr. Dampare acknowledged receipt of his petition, and subsequently referred the matter to Police Intelligence and Professional Standards Bureau PIPS, a committee set up has failed to bring finality to the case.
Part of the reply of the petition to the complaint cum estate developer signed by COP Kingsley Aboagy said “Re…Request for immediate enquiry and investigation into the activity of one Kwasi Alhaji. This is to acknowledge receipt of your letter on the above subject. I am directed by the Inspector General of Police to respectfully convey that your letter has been referred to the Director General Police Professional Standard Bureau to investigate and report you will therefore be contacted by the command to assist in investigation”.
Patrick in an interview with Accra FM, again extended his allegations to some officers at the Millennium City police station who the suspect and his land guards have been working with, emboldening them to unleash violence and threats people as and when they deem fit.
He mentioned in particular the district commander ACP Fredrick Adjei who he said despite his inability to resolve the despite concerning Lance Corporal Michael Danso land, is looking as Nana Fiifi and his men go ahead to work on the disputed land.
“They operate with active support from some police officers from the Central East Millennium City so when they kill you, it will amount to nothing” he said.
He said “Kwasi Alhaji has without fear or favour threatened to kill him at the office of the Regional Crime Officer Superintendent Owusu Dwomoh”.
The estate developer who said he was beaten on the morning of Tuesday and a gun pointed at him on the same day Michael Danso was gruesomely murdered said everything points to the fact that he was the target of Benlord and Nana Fiifi.
He explained that Benlord and his men met him on the land in the presence of the late military officer, colleagues after he had information that work had resumed on it.
He said after an initial banter, Nana Fiifi and Benlord, the two called about fifty (50) land guards to assault him. It was after that incident that the various parties headed to the police station to meet with the commander unfortunately, the shooting occurred. He said due to the beating he could not make it to the station before the incident occurred.
In a follow up interview on Saturday May 4, he told this reporter he has visited the hospital after the beatings and sent his medical report to the police. He indicated the police assured him he will invite him for questions but they are yet to do so.
Meanwhile, Member of Parliament (MP) for the Assin Central constituency is waging a war against Kwasi Alhaji and his men. According to the maverick politician, he is informed the infamous land guard has been threatening, shooting and beheading people because of land disputes.
The failed NPP presidential aspirant in 2018 blew the cover of Kwasi Alhaji saying he is able to visit brutalities on Ghanaians because he is being supported by a big man in the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP).
“This is the first warning I am sounding to NPP leaders, we will fight. They should be prepared to let me resign from the party.
“We can’t sit down for criminals to rule this country and you will be behind defending criminals, wicked, evil people who cause murder,” he said.
At the time, the MP said he had tried to speak with a police officer during a meeting somewhere but the officer on phone indicated he could not speak to the matter.
“What saddened me is how the senior police officer was begging he does not talk to me because after it he gets the trouble. These police officers are supposed to protect us but the protectors themselves are afraid of land guards…the protectors of the citizens are afraid of land guards. I will put my life on the line for the good people of this country, I will fight these guys [Kwesi Alhaji and his NPP backer].
“I am giving him the last warning, the NPP elder…if he jokes I will mention his name. He should bear in mind we have suffered…Nana Addo sacrificed his life so many years, President Akufo-Addo and some NPP elders sacrificed their lives to get this party this far so you cannot go and back land guards to kill people and give the party a bad name. The guy mentioned his name, the chiefs did and even the police officer,” he added.
Ken who is also the Chairman of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Defence and Security, days ago went hard at him saying “Kwesi Alhaji usurps lands from people. Once he identifies a space he likes, he seizes it and quickly demolishes the houses which occupy the lands, this cannot be tolerated in Ghana,” “Such acts linked to my party which has worked to come this far must be tamed or it multiplies tenfold before our eyes”.
