The police have apprehended the sub-chief who allegedly shot and killed a military officer in a disputed parcel of land at Millennium City at Kasoa in the Central Region.
The suspect, Gyasehene of Millennium City Benlord Ababio is alleged to have opened fire on the decease who was driving a Toyota Rav 4 with registration number GR GR 3591-24 together with two other colleagues who narrowly escaped.
“The Ghana Police Service has arrested a man in connection with a shooting incident which occurred at Millennium City, Kasoa, in the Central Region, leading to the death of a soldier.
Preliminary Police investigation has established that the suspect, Benlord Ababio allegedly shot the soldier at Millennium City Kasoa on Tuesday, 30th April 2024, at about 4:20pm. The victim sustained gunshot wounds and was rushed to the Mother and Child Hospital at Kasoa for medical attention. However, he was later pronounced dead by the medical authorities.
Suspect Benlord Ababio is currently in custody assisting Police investigation.
The leadership of the Police Service is in touch with the leadership of the Ghana Armed Forces as investigation into the incident continues,” the police release signed by Director of Public Affairs, ACP Grace Ansah-Akrofi on May 1 said.
According to reports the land had been purchased through the effort of Winnebo Ndego but as it common with land acquisition in the Greater Accra and Kasoa areas, the officers faced stiff opposition from a group led by an individual named Fiifi anytime they tried to develop it.
The incident reportedly occurred Tuesday, April 30, when the deceased and his companions confronted some individuals who were working on land the soldiers claimed belonged to them.
After that he had attempted to lodge a second complaint at the Millennium City District Police station but were met by the Gyasehene of Millennium City now suspect who insisted they do no such thing.
The officers refused and decided to proceed to the Divisional Police Command, they were allegedly ordered by the suspect also known as Nana Ben, to stop following up on the case and when they refused, he allegedly opened fire on their vehicle, killing one of the soldiers on the spot.
