Thousands Of Ghanaians Invade IMF, Petitions Against Assistance To Akufo Addo

Thousands of Ghanaians have invaded the Facebook and other social media platforms of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) with personal petitions protesting against the institution bailing out the Akufo Addo administration.

Since Friday, July 1, 2022, the IMF’s Facebook has seen an explosion of comments on all their posts.

It quickly became apparent that about 90% of these comments are from Ghanaians who are frantically petitioning the IMF not to admit Ghana onto any bailout programme.

According to the thousands of Ghanaian petitioners on the IMF platform, the highly corrupt Akufo Addo administration does not deserve a bailout.

“Dear IMF, I write from Ghana. Please heed our plea. Do not give Akufo Addo and his bunch of criminals any support. They have had enough…,” one petitioner wrote.

Another wrote: “…Please IMF, do not attempt to give any money to our President because they have mismanaged and chopped all the money they borrowed. Now, you guys should visit Ghana and see the kind of hardship…”

There are thousands of similar personal petitions from Ghanaians whose numbers keep ballooning on IMF’s Facebook page.

Whatsup News can confirm that normally, the IMF which normally gets less than 150 comments on its Facebook page with one million followers, started seeing comments of more than two thousand on their posts from Friday, June 1, 2022.

The momentum with which Ghanaians are expressing themselves is a reflection of the general composure in the country after it became apparent that the Akufo Addo administration had squandered over US$ 1 billion advanced to it by the IMF as COVID-19 emergency funds.

Also, the anger may have been triggered by the uncompromising vows made by the Akufo Addo administration that it had a better economic management team than the previous John-Mahama administration and that they will “never” ruin the Ghanaian economy to the point where they will require an IMF bailout.

However, last Thursday, the bravado talk ended when the Jubilee House administration issued an official statement announcing that it has decided to seek urgent help from the IMF because of the collapse of the Ghanaian economy.

Already, this turn of events has damaged the ratings of the Akufo Addo government, with widespread anger greeting the announcement.
