Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, is to appear before the Ghanaians Parliament this week Wednesday, June 22, 2022, to account for the government’s fraudulent expenditure on the COVID-19 pandemic.
His appearance was rescheduled after he failed to appear before the House on
Thursday, June 16, 2022.
Ofori-Atta has been using every dirty trick in the books to avoid accountability after the government’s spending on COVID-19 became a convoluted mess with different persons stating different figures for COVID-19 expenditure.
On Thursday, Majority Chief Whip, Frank Annoh-Dompreh told MPs that the majority leadership of the House received a request from the Finance Minister who claims “he is going to kill two birds with a stone.”
According to Annor-Dompreh, Ofori-Atta claims he is going to answer all the nagging questions around the dubious COVID-19 spending as well as make a statement.
Annoh Dompreh, therefore, asked the Speaker to kindly oblige the rescheduling.
Per the Business Statement for the week, and Wednesday’s provisional Order Paper, Ken Ofori-Atta was expected to answer 16 questions, which include account on the Covid-19 funds.
Minority MPs are not happy about the development as they have accused him of continuous disrespect for the House.
Ranking Member on the Health Committee of Parliament, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, stressed that the attitude of the Finance Minister points to the fact that the government does not care much about probity and transparency.
“If he [Ken Ofori-Atta] really cares and this man has any conscience, he would not have the guts to go and sit on national television and be defending the building of the National Cathedral, while countless number of NABCo people have not been paid, and while the National Health Insurance Authority’s Fund has not been paid.”
