-Mensah Otabil Runs From Scandal Riddled “House of God”
As part of the dirty files emerging from the troubled National Cathedral project, it has been revealed that the Akufo-Addo smuggled the name of the National Cathedral’s Executive Director, Dr. Paul Opoku-Mensah, on the payroll of the presidency as a presidential staffer.
Ranking Member on Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, revealed this in an interview with Joy FM’s Emefa Apawu.
“When you go through the list of Board of Trustees, this gentleman [Dr. Paul Opoku Mensah] who has been listed here as the Executive Director of the Secretariat, a Secretariat presented as a private entity, has also been listed as a Presidential staffer and his position there is, Overseer of the National Cathedral,” Ablakwa stated.
“Why is the Ghanaian taxpayer paying somebody who works for a private board of trustees?” Ablakwa who is also MP for North Tongu quizzed.
The Akufo-Addo government, which essentially is now engaged in monkey business with the National Cathedral scandal, has already been in the news for secretly funneling taxpayers’ money into his private thanksgiving project, the National Cathedral, behind the back of Parliament.
A whopping Ghc200million has reportedly been blown on the project, including a whopping Ghc32million consultancy fees to Sir David Adjaye and Associates without the project taking off.
In fact, the lead contractor for the project, RIBADE ltd, has served notice they are abandoning the contract because this same thieving government which has reportedly secreted some Ghc200million to the project, has not been making money available.
The burning question lips of critics, therefore, is what the Ghc200million was used for.
Meanwhile, Pastor Dr. Mensah Otabil of the International Central Gospel Church, who used to serve on the Board of Trustees is said to have abandoned board meetings over illegalities surrounding the botched project.
According to Okudzeto Ablakwa, Otabil has throughout the year been voting with his feet as far as the national cathedral board of trustees is concerned.
“There is quite an uneasy calm among the Board of Trustees. And I can confirm to you that one imminent priest has walked away from the Board; the revered Dr. Mensa Otabil is no longer with them. The whole year, he has not attended any of their meetings. It is not clear what his intention was, but he has given indication that all is not well,” he told host Emefa Apawu on Sunday, June 12.
Mensah Otabil who is smarting from his role in reportedly squandering millions of government bailout money channeled to the defunct Capital Bank appear to be hysterical about another seething scandal.
