National Cathedral GHC 200 million Scam Exposed, Contractor Stopped Work Since March 2022

An explosive leak has exposed a disturbing GHC 200 million scam being perpetrated by the Akufo Addo administration using the controversial National Cathedral as an alibi.

A letter leaked from the main contractor of the project shows that work on the contentious personal religious sanctuary of President Akufo Addo had ground to a complete halt since March 2022, despite the Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta and the Jubilee House fraudulently paying some GHC 200 million as seed capital for the construction of the widely hated national cathedral.

Whatsup News has seen the leaded letter from RIBADE Company Ltd, the main construction company for the national cathedral, showing that the project has been suspended and workers laid off because the is no money to pay the contractors.

“Due to the lack of payment from National Cathedral of Ghana which has resulted in the project being suspended, RIBADE COMPANY LTD are required under the Contract to mitigate costs,” said Grant Ramsay, the Project Manager of the company.

The letter was addressed to the staff of the company, asking them to go home.

It reads: “In compliance with such an obligation under the Contract, RIBADE Company LTD has no option but to issue this letter of notice terminating the agreement between RIBADE COMPANY LTD and you as per the provision of your employment agreement. This notice of termination takes effect on the 14th of March 2022, you are therefore requested to hand in all properties (i.e. Safety equipment, etc.) belonging to the company in your possession to the HR Office by close of work of the same day.”

This letter comes as a shocker and a with the suspicion that the Akufo Addo administration has scammed the President’s God because the Finance Minister Ken Ofori a few days ago clandestinely released some GHC 25 million as an addition to over GHC 170 million that had earlier been released to the project managers as seed capital for the project.

Additionally, the National Cathedral Secretariat and President Akufo Addo had held several fundraising campaigns for the project abroad and had created the impression that they have gathered enough donations to complete the over US$ 200 million dubious project.

Pictures from the site confirm the abandonment of the project, with barely a block laid for its foundation.

“Please, where in the world, much less in the developing world, can a supervising architect take US$ 6 million for a project that is at this stage of construction? A project beset with project management challenges?” This was a comment by Bright Simons, a founding director of policy think-tank, Imani Africa.

Mr. Simmons was calling out Sir David Adjaye, the lead architect who was secretly handed over GHC 32 million or approximately US$ 6 million as consultancy for the shambolic project.

David Adjaye is a world-renowned architect who founded the Adjaye and Associates firm in the UK. But, his personal relations with the Akufo Addo Jubilee House has raised suspicions that he has compromised his credibility for agreeing to be used as a conduit to steal public funds in the guise of constructing a phantom national cathedral.

The contentious cathedral is a personal project of President Akufo Addo who claim he had a personal encounter with his God and that he must build a cathedral in return for that deity allowing him to win the 2016 presidential election.

Since 2017, when he officially took office at the Jubilee House, the cathedral has been fraught with blatant lies and dishonest communications by President Akufo Addo and his appointees.

Initially, they claimed the cathedral would be solely funded by the Christian community and other private donors. But, soon, the government was exposed for committing over GHC 200 million in “seed capital” to the project.

Even at that, the so-called seed capital appears to have been pocketed by the administration which has been dubbed the most corrupt in the history of Ghana.
