Member of Parliament for Tamale Central, Hon. Murtala Muhammed, has made public revelations that houses serving as official accommodation for personnel of the Prisons Service in Tamale have been secretly sold to private individuals.
This is the latest in the blatant rape of state-owned lands by individuals in the Akufo Addo administration, particularly after revelations that Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie (Sir John) has stolen a huge swathe of the Achimota Forest and that President Akufo Addo himself had used a front-Charles Owusu, to highjack the 600-acre Aviation Lands in Adenta.
In a Facebook post, Murtala Mohammed says the buildings are close to an office of telecoms giant, MTN in the Northern Regional capital, asking what crimes the people of Ghana have committed to suffer such humiliation.
This is because, according to him, the officers occupying the buildings are being evicted by the new private owners of the state houses.
“I just picked information that the Northern Regional Minister, this afternoon informed the leadership of the Northern Region Prisons that the houses accommodating about 19 of their officers by the MTN head office in Tamale have been sold to a so-called private person since the year 2020 and that they should with immediate effect look for an alternative accommodation for the officers,” he said.
“Someone should tell me the crime the people of this country have committed against this government such that their insensitivity knows no limit. Not even state institutions.”
The post comes in the wake of revelations that the Akufo-Addo government has been selling state lands and properties to cronies of the government.
