Adwoa Sarfo Must Resign …Parliament’s Privileges Committee Member

A member of the Privileges Committee of Parliament, Michael Okyere Baafi, has jumped the gun by asking for the resignation of the absentee New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP) for Dome/Kwabenya MP, Sarah Adwoa Sarfo.

Mr. Okyerte Baafi who is also the NPP Member of Parliament for New Juaben South in the Ashanti Region is advising her Dome Kwabenya colleague to resign her position. This is after

The Speaker of Parliament had referred the matter before his Privileges Committee.

“For me, she has not conducted herself well. And her political ratings now automatically will come down because people are not satisfied, especially members of the Majority caucus who are not happy with her. And so I think she should make the decision and that she shouldn’t sit down for any person in leadership or in caucus to table a motion for her to be expelled from the party or to be pushed out,” Baafi told Media General‘s Komla Klutse in an interview.

The indication is that if Adwoa Sarfo appears before the Committee, she will be peppered.

Interestingly, the NDC MP for Asawase, Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak, has jumped to the defence of Adwoa Safo claiming the woman has been forced to stay in the US to fight for the custody of her children.

According to Muntaka, the Speaker’s decision was unilaterally taken. However, his defence of Adwoa Safo is surprising many, especially when her own party, the NPP has said, the woman has been absenting herself after her demand to be made deputy Majority Leader was turned down.

Speaking on JoyNews’ PM Express, Muntaka Mubarak claimed that Adwoa Safo’s children are at risk of being separated from their mother by the American Social Welfare Department.

According to him, the absentee MP said this in a letter requesting leave of absence from Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin after Adwoa Sarfo’s own party, the NPP Majority in Parliament refused to recommend her for leave of absence.

“She’s talking about her children and if she’s not careful Social Welfare in America will seize these children. We cannot pretend to say that that’s not a serious thing. We can’t,” he claimed.

Already, the NDC MP’s behaviour has attracted flak from the party base with angry NDC devotees calling him a traitor for defending NPP’s Adwoa Sarfo after her own party had abandoned her.

There is also wonderment as to how Muntaka knows this and even believes it when Adwoa Sarfo’s own party has said the woman is absent due to a petulant demand to be made Deputy Majority Leader.
