Akora Kofi Darko Leaves Light TV/Vision One After Jubilee House Threatened Director

Popular news anchor of Light TV channel, Akora Kofi Darko, has resigned from the station, this week after fallout from an attack from the Akufo-Addo Jubilee House.

Light TV is operated by Smart Media, a company owned by Dr. Kwame Kyei, a pro-NPP man. However, staff of the station, including Akora Kofi Darko, who also presents news on Vision 1 FM, would rather pursue non-partisan, neutral broadcasting.

As a result of this, the station has been presenting programs, including ‘Oman Yi Daakye’ that criticizes the Akufo-Addo government, something that had not gone down well with the Akufo-Addo Jubilee House which two weeks ago reportedly dispatched a group of female staff to the Dome St. Johns office of the station to meet with Dr. Kyei.

The ladies from Jubilee House had, however, not met the Director in the office when they visited.

A day after, Dr. Kyei is said to have called the station and ordered that all political shows be stopped because the government has threatened to shut down the whole media conglomerate if the station continues the political broadcast.

“ He said the government said we are making the government unpopular,” a source told Whatsup News.

Akora Kofi Darko has since confirmed that he has left Light TV but refused to give reasons for his decision. He also confirms he is now at Power FM.

Meanwhile, another popular presenter at the station, Nana Darko, who hosted the station’s main political talk show, has since been interdicted.

Aside from hosting the political talk show at light TV, he was the host of Gospel New Star reality show and “W’asheaseɛ ne sɛn

Reports have emerged that Class Media has since poached him to be the host of Morning Show Host and Programs Director.
