The Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE) Abdul Mumin Issah has been arrested by the Western Regional Police Command for dangerous driving that almost killed a police officer.
When he was cautioned by the embattled police officer, the murderous MCE launched into a barrage of verbal assault on the officer.
But in a prompt response, the Regional Police Command swooped down on him and slapped him with three (3) counts of Assault of a public officer, Offensive conduct conducive to breaches of peace and disturbing the peace in a public place contrary to Sections 205, 207 and 298 respectively, of the Criminal and Other Offences Act of 1960, Act 29.
He has also been charged for Dangerous driving contrary to Section 1 of Act 683 of 2004 as amended by Act 761 of 2008.
“The MCE, who was driving a Toyota Land-cruiser with registration number GE 5615-20 is alleged to have driven dangerously and carelessly while approaching a police snap checkpoint at the Kwasimintsim Cemetery on Wednesday, 2nd February 2022,” a police statement read.
Meanwhile, a voice clip recorded by the quick-thinking Police officer who was assaulted is leaving shock in the air about the arrogance of appointees of President Akufo-Addo.
Abdul-Mumin Issah, is heard calling the officer stupid, threatening to beat him to death and vowing to have him transferred to a remote village called Enchi, for daring to initiate his arrest for careless driving.
In the voice clips, the arrogant MCE is also heard hurling insults at the officer and attempting to snatch his mobile phone.
“You are stupid,” the MCE is heard saying, adding, “You don’t know whom you are dealing with, you don’t know whom you are dealing with you’ll come begging tomorrow.”
The police officer’s full identity is not yet known even though he is heard mentioning his rank as an Inspector in the audio.
Per the audio, the whole confrontation began when the MCE carelessly drove up to the Police snap checkpoint near the Kwasimintsim cemetery and attempted to jump traffic. In this attempt, it is heard, he nearly knocked the officer down.
Consequently, the officer stopped him and alerted a patrol team to come and pick him to the Police station for further action.
Being the MCE for Sekondi-Takoradi automatically makes Mr. Issah the head of the Metropolitan Security Council and so he felt that the officer ought to have allowed him to go even though he had broken the traffic rules.
“Do you want me to introduce myself before you let me pass?” the MCE is heard saying, adding, “if I see that a space is opened, and there is so much traffic, don’t I have the right to (jump).”
Through it all, the officer held his ground and insisted he was not going to allow the MCE to go because he had informed a patrol team and the patrol team was on its way to arrest the MCE.
Unbeknownst to the MCE, the officer was recording the whole confrontation. Later the MCE got to know this and he tried to snatch the Police officer’s phone, apparently, so he could smash it and destroy it together with the evidence. This provoked the officer who asked for his gun to be brought to him.
The incident is said to have happened on Wednesday, the next day Thursday, the Police released a statement saying the MCE had been arrested.
