…Ashanti regional Minister
Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei-Mensah has told journalists that his hands are tied regarding the case in which a private developer has erected a fence wall across a major road at Danyame in the Ashanti Region.
This is in spite of the fact that the particular land is government land and that taxpayers’ money was used to asphalt the access road which for years served as a pass to some offices at the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council.
Mr. Osei Mensah made the revelation when he addressed journalists at a press conference in Kumasi.
According to him, the original access road had been illegally constructed and so no action can be taken against the private developer.
“I called the Regional Lands Officer, and I’m informed that that place wasn’t a road, so the road was constructed illegally. I had no authority on the land and if I decided to stop the developer, it will lead to judgment debt to the government,” the Minister said.
Unconfirmed reports indicate that the property may belong to ex-President John Agyekum Kufour. Whatsup News has been unable to verify this report making the round on social media.
Motorists this week were suddenly confronted with the blockade of the road by the private developer. The blockade ended access to the road.
