Police Threatens To Kill #FixTheCountry Activists In Koforidua Townhall Meeting On E-Levy

A Police Officer who apparently had been deployed at a town hall meeting by the government in Koforidua on the Electronic Transaction levy (E-Levy) reportedly threatened to kill members of the #FixTheCountry pressure group who had intended to participate in the meeting.

The said officer, identified as Inspector E.O Baah, is said to have warned that he would shoot to kill members of the pressure group if they did not vamoose from the town hall meeting.

Oliver Barker-Vormawor, one of the leaders of the pressure group, posted the development on social media Friday.

“Inspector E.O. Baah is the one threatening to shoot #FixTheCountry reps at the e-levy town hall meeting,” he had posted on Facebook.

According to Mr. Barker-Vormawor members of the pressure group which is demanding accountability and resourcefulness from the government had gone to the e-levy town hall meeting at Koforidua with a list of some 50 well-researched questions to ask the government.

However, when they got to the meeting, their members who had managed to enter the main venue were identified and thrown out of the meeting.

Others who were outside seeking entry to the venue were also prevented by Police from entering the venue.

“One of our activists was pulled out from the meeting. No reason. Others blocked from entry. Apparently, they were positioned to look out for and fish us out. Police threatening to shoot them,” Mr. Barker-Vormawor wrote on Facebook.

According to him, the police also sought to prevent the media from giving interviews to their members. “One reporter’s camera has been seized for wanting to talk to the #FixTheCountry reps who are being stopped.”
