Railways Minister, John Peter Amewu, has been reported to the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) after it emerged that he used a group of armed police officers, including rogue officers to terrorise a mining mogul from Australia who had lived in Ghana for over four decades.
According to a petition intercepted by Whatsup News, Paul List specifically mentions Amewu as being the government minister who abused the security agencies by sending heavily armed officers to Mr. List’s home at Labone to forcibly arrest him without a warrant so that Angela List, the estranged wife of Paul List, would be able to break into his (Paul’s) apartment and barricade it.
However, the arrest which Mr. List states he suspects could have been used to kill him was foiled because the BCM owner’s lawyer was around and insisted he was not allowing the Police to drive his client to a police station late at night.
Out of the Police’s frustration, they handed Mr. List and his lawyer a number (0244370410) which turned out, upon ascertainment on the True Caller App, to be the number of John Peter Amewu, the Railways Minister.
Mr. List is asking the IGP to investigate the Railways Minister and the rogue police officers he had sent to effect the illegal arrest.
The petition which Whatsup News has sighted is dated 12th January 2022.
When contacted via telephone, Amewu argue vehemently that Angela List had a right to the property.
When reminded that the said property was in the name of a company owned by BCM, Amewu responded: “It is a long story, so let’s not go into that…I don’t know when my number came in. Because I know this lady, he put my number there….”
According to Amewu, the issue is that Paul List pulled a gun on the thugs who were attempting to lockdown his property in the dead of the night without a court warrant.
Even though Amewu vehemently denied he was responsible for telegraphing the illegal break-in of Paul List’s apartment, he admitted that he was pissed that Paul List pulled an unregistered gun on the rogues who attempted to forcefully eject him [Paul List] from his home.
Meanwhile, according to Paul List’s petition, the terror started at around 8 pm on 11th January when Robert Nartey, an employee of BCM who lives in the company’s apartment at the Vanguard Heights in Cantonments placed a distress call to Mr. List.
Mr. Nartey had informed him that four people had broken into his apartment with the intent to lock him out by replacing the locks and that the four men had said they were working under the instruction of Mr. List’s estranged wife, Angela Diala List.
Because his estranged wife, who is seeking to dispossess him of all his properties has in the past used armed men to break into his office, Mr. List says he quickly called his lawyer to alert the Police.
According to him, the men had two locks and had told Mr. Nartey that they were instructions to change the locks to the doors of both his and Mr. Paul List’s apartment.
Mr. Robert Nartey then alerted the security officers on duty at the Vanguard Heights and in response, two of the men took to their heels. But one of the two carpenters who had been arrested would say that Angela List who had hired them had instructed them to wait for a team of police officers she had arranged with to provide them security while they break into the apartments.
At about 7:30 pm two men in plainclothes arrived and Angela List instructed them to break into the apartments.
Then at about 9 pm, a team of Police Officers believed to be from the Cantonments Divisional Police Command arrived and arrested the two suspects who confessed that they had been sent by Angela List to change the locks of the apartments.
But after this, a second group of five heavily armed Police officers arrived and announced they were coming from the Police Headquarters. They proceeded to speak to the two officers from Cantonments and expressed satisfaction that the Cantonments team could handle the issue. But before the discussion would end, the leader of the Cantonments team had a call on his phone and spoke in what is believed to be the Ewe language for 20 minutes.
After speaking on the phone he announced that he had been instructed to bring in Mr. List, “the Whiteman” to the Police station that night.
However, Mr. List’s lawyer questioned the officer if his client was under arrest, to which the officer responded in the negative but that his “boss” whom he had just spoken to in the Ewe language has instructed that he brings the “White man”.
Incidentally, Amewu is from the Volta Region and speaks the Ewe language and coincidentally, his number turned up as the one the police officers were taking instructions from.
He denied these correlations though when Whatsup News contacted him.
When the lawyer demanded to know who had sent the police squad, the officers answered that it was their boss. The lawyer then demanded to speak to their boss because it was past 10:30 pm.
Mr. Lists’ lawyer would be given the number of DCOP Mohammed Suraji, but the officer could not give any tangible explanation as to why the police had besieged the apartment of Mr. List that night.
The Lawyer would then insists on getting DCOP Suraji’s number and after he reluctantly gave the number (0244370410) from the other end of the phone, Mr. List says a crosscheck revealed that Peter Amewu had been the puppet master of the police officers tasked to handle romance dispute.
John Peter Amewu is the Railways Minister and the MP for Hohoe.
From the chain of events, it appears, Peter Amewu may have been the DCOP Mohammed Suraji that the police officers were referring to. Amewu denied this as well when contacted by Whatsup News.
Mr. Amewu a family friend of the Lists had been in the thick of events when the marriage of Paul and Angela went sour.
After the marriage hit the rocks, Angela List is said to have been on a mission to dispossess her ex-husband of all his property, allegedly stealing more than US$9million from Mr. List’s company BCM and had used some of the money to buy a private jet.
She has also bought a resort, Lou Moon, in the Western Region. And in her bid to scare Mr. List from getting back his properties, Angela List is said to have been using national security operatives, with the express backing of her political connections to terrorize the 70-year-old Paul List.
According to the petition to the IGP, Angela List altered documents to criminally allocate shares in various companies owned by Mr. List to herself to take over all of his companies.
“These matters are before the law courts both in Ghana and abroad. In some of the cases, injunctions had been obtained against my estranged wife. Without prejudice, I am likely to succeed in reversing the manipulations by my estranged wife, and these will eventually rip her of my stolen wealth. For fear that I will recover all my stolen wealth from her…,” Paul List stated.
“I reasonably suspect that is why my estranged and separated wife through the back door appears to have made some arrangements with DCOP Mohammed Suraji and/or Honorable John Peter Amewu for my arrest with the intention to put fear in me or even kill me in order to eliminate or estop me from recovering my wealth.”
Mr. List reiterates that he is now in a state of fear for his life and therefore is asking the IGP to institute action against the first and second teams of police officers who invaded his home, Angela List and John Peter Amewu, the Railways Minister.
“I am traumatized by that evening and also coupled with my age and health, I had at this juncture decided to leave the scene into my apartment. The Police told me I could not leave,” Mr. List lamented in his petition to the IGP.
“I am further appealing to you for your special assurance as to my security to deliver me completely from the state of fear and insecurity I have been plunged into,” Mr. List wrote.
