The Ministry of Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs has directed all Nation Builders Corp (NABCO) trainees attached to the ministry to go home, saying they were not supposed to be at post after the programme was dissolved several months ago.
In a directive to all Registrars dated 21st January 2022, Head of Human Resource, Mrs. Dedaa Wireko Agyei, on behalf of the Minister directed that the trainees are relieved since the programme ended in October last year.
“This is to kindly remind you that the Nation Builders Corps (NABCO) programme ended at the end of October 2021. Unfortunately, the information reaching the Hon. Minister currently indicates that some trainees are still at post. You are kindly requested to relieve all trainees of their current duties and allow them to exit from the service,” the letter said.
The letter comes despite assurances from the government that the NABCO trainees had not been asked to go home, claiming they had been retained.
In November 2021, after the program had ended and some agencies were asking NABCO trainees to go home, the government released a statement assuring the trainees to stay on for permanent jobs.
“Following a high-level stakeholder meeting with the lead NABCO Module Implementation Partners (MIPs) led by His Excellency, the Vice President of the Republic of Ghana and The Honourable Chief of Staff, all NABCO trainees are required to remain at post,” a statement signed by NABCO boss Dr. Ibrahim Anyars on Monday 15 November 2021 said.
It added that a new cohort of NABCO trainees will be recruited in 2022.
NABCO was introduced by the Akufo-Addo led administration in 2017 as part of measures to address graduate unemployment in the country.
The initiative was run under seven modules namely Educate Ghana, Heal Ghana, Feed Ghana, Revenue Ghana, Digitise Ghana, Enterprise Ghana, and Civic Ghana.
