The Anglican priest who was spotted passionately kissing several female students of the St. Monica’s Anglican College of Education on a church pulpit, Father Baltharzzar Obeng Larbi is attempting to escape criminal prosecution by asking Ghanaians for “forgiveness”.
In a statement released today, feigned surprise that his brazen sexual harassment of his female students has become the talk of town, saying, “My attention has been drawn to a video which flashed on a number of social media and television screens.”
Yet, in the video that was secretly recorded by one of his congregation members showed him virtually dragging at least three female students and planted passionate French Kisses on their lips.
In his statement, he claimed he stuck to his alibi, claiming he did not realise the gravity of his action.
“Accordingly, I am sincerely sorry for my actions seen in the video. I seemed to have taken several things for granted. I did not think through my behaviour…I pray for forgiveness from all and sundry and plead that you hold me in your prayers during these trying times. May God bless us all,” he wrote.
The plea and excuses of the Casanova priest would however not erase serious allegations of sexual harassment against him in the school.
As soon as his sexually explicit act was exposed, it emboldened a number of the students of the all-female school to come out to recount their harrowing experience with the said priest.
One student who wants to remain anonymous reached out to the media, the episode that has now gone viral was when he reportedly decided to award “best students” in his chaplaincy for their “godliness”. The first to be passionately kissed was the school chaplain, said the whistleblower.
The whistleblower also recounted incidents where Father Larbi had victimised some students for not giving in to his sexual advances.
“This is not the first time. Some of my mates wanted to be Sunday School teachers and he asked them to come and see him. When they went, he asked them to kiss him which they did and one Mass Servant too, he asked her to sit on his lap and she refused. He started hating her and she stopped,” the St. Monica whistleblower narrated their ordeal with the predatory priest.
Another student who reached out to the media on condition of anonymity recounted how he caused the suspension of a student he was having an affair with when she was caught in an amorous relationship with the priest.
“…and the beast [the priest] was spared and kept working as a teacher and a priest while someone suffered. We were aggrieved though, but he was spared because social media wasn’t vibrant then, otherwise, he would have been exposed a long time ago,” said the student.
Meanwhile, while a cross-section of the Ghanaian public appear to have been swayed by his plea of piety, others think he is simply shedding crocodile tears and that he should be dealt with legally for charges of sexual assault and harassment.
Incidentally, Rev. Father Larbi is who is an officially recognised priest of the Anglican Church of Ghana is a trained lawyer as well. He acts as the lawyer for the Ashanti Regional Chapter of the Ghana Education Service (GES).
In 2018, he led the disciplinary committee of the GES in Ashanti Region to investigate George Amponsah-Duodu, the Assistant Headmaster of the Kumasi High School for an accusation of Sodomy on one of his students.
Rev. Father Larbi’s recommendation would result in Mr. George-Duodu getting suspended until a Kumasi High Court has quashed the investigative report that found him guilty of sodomy.
Meanwhile, the Anglican Church has distanced itself from the bonking priest saying the church is “saddened” by the news of the sexual harassment evidence against Rev. Father Larbi.
The Anglican Church claims it has launched an investigation into the matter as speculations heighten that the randy priest may be ex-communicated.
