Agbogba Pre-school Caregiver Who Allegedly Killed Baby Denied Bail By Court

Clara Ayan Ampah, the caregiver who is facing prosecution for allegedly causing the death of an 11-month old pre-schooler at Abgogba in the Greater Accra Region has been denied bail by the Adentan District Court.

At her second appearance on Friday, Ms. Ampah’s request for bail was denied by the court which sided with prosecutors’ position that the case is still under investigation and that if the suspect is bailed, she will be in a position to tamper with the investigation.

The court presided over by Mrs. Linda Amissah was also told by Inspector Jacob Nyarko, who held brief for Chief Inspector Grace Prempeh that the Police are also waiting for instructions from the Attorney General’s office on how to proceed with the case.

On May 18, the father of the victim reported the death of her daughter to the Agbogba Police after the management of the school had called to inform him that his daughter had been pronounced dead at the North Legon Hospital after she was rushed there on emergency.

Following this, investigators went to the hospital and examined the body before conveying it to the Police Hospital morgue for autopsy after which the body was released to the family for burial.

However, the proprietress of the school, Mrs Christiana Atta Kumah, would later hand over CCTV footage of the day of the incident to the police, which revealed that Ms. Clara Ampah had possibly choked the baby in an attempt to feed her.

In the video, Clara is seen trying to force the contents of a cup into the throat of the toddler while holding the baby’s hands tightly behind.

She is also seen plunging the baby’s head into the cup in an attempt to get the little girl to eat, as the victim who appeared to be suffocating, screamed and kicked her legs.
