Auditor General Exposes Faces Behind his Hounding

The Auditor-General (A-G) Daniel Domelovo has revealed attributed the department’s recent brush with the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) as an orchestrated scheme by certain interest groups to get him personally off the scene because of his uncompromising anti-corruption stance.

In an interview on Accra-based Joy FM today, he singled out pro-government newspaper, the EOCO and the Public Procurement Authority (PPA) as the architects of the harassment meted out to staff of the A-G in what recently came out as an investigation by EOCO into procurement breaches at the A-G’s department. Mr Domelovo revealed that that the Daily Guide had signalled it will “strip him naked”. “I still have my clothes on, I am telling Daily Guide,” he challenged Daily Guide.

“I think it is one of the intimidating principles or approaches being used but then I want to assure them that they can come and jail me we will not stop doing what we are doing,” he said.

The EOCO recently launched a full-scale investigation into alleged procurement breaches at the Ghana Audit Service, fuelling speculations that a conspiracy to remove the Auditor-General, Daniel Yao Domelevo has been kicked into full gear.

A private citizen lodged a complaint at EOCO against the Auditor General; the Deputy Auditor General (Finance and Administration), Mrs Roberta Assiamah-Appiah, and the Audit Service Board, accusing them of circumventing the procurement laws to procure some vehicles for the Audit Service.

This is a re-enactment of recent moves by a pressure group linked to the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) initiating similar moves to get the Audit Service Board out.

The Alliance for Accountable Governance (AFAG) had recently initiated moves to get the vociferous Audit Service boss out. Threatening to petition President Akufo Addo to remove him over what it called procurement breaches at the Audit Service. An adamant Yao Domelevo has insisted that he is unfazed by all these tactics.
