The 8th Parliament of the Fourth Republic has announced that it will resume on Tuesday, May 25, 2021, after their month-long recess that was mostly triggered by fears of COVID-19 infections.
When the legislators resume, they are expected to consider five key bills including the Ghana Standards Authority Bill, 2021, Exemptions Bill 2021 and the Consumer Protection Bill, 2021.
The others are; Petroleum Revenue Management (Amendment) 2021, Advertising Council Bill, 2021.
A statement issued by the Public Affairs Department of Parliament also indicated that the Appointments Committee will resume public vetting of President Akufo-Addo’s nominees for appointment to Ministers of State and Deputy Ministerial positions.
The second meeting is expected to be full of fireworks after the Minority has warned that it will be critical of government policies and programmes, particularly after they received widespread bashing for flirting with the Akufo Addo administration by allowing some controversial ministers to sail through smoothly during the vetting exercise.
The most controversial ministerial appointment that the public had expected the Minority to reject was that of the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, who has superintended over countless financial scandals in the past four years.
The second meeting will end in in July 2021.
