Ghanaians In Northern Region Demonstrate Against Rigged Elections

Thousands of Ghanaians in the Northern Region today demonstrated against the controversial results of the 2020 election, which is widely perceived to have been rigged by the Electoral Commission for President Akufo-Addo and the New Patriotic Party.

Clad in red and carrying placards, demonstrators marched through principal streets of Tamale, the regional capital amidst chanting and singing.

Some of the placards read, ‘stolen Verdict,’ ‘No Justice, No Peace,’ ‘We Reject Fake Results,’ and ‘Criminal EC,’ among others.

The demonstration was peaceful and had Police officers in attendance to shepherd it.

The 2020 elections have ended in controversy after the Electoral Commission declared results that it had sourced from the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).

The EC’s declared results have since proven to be mathematically impossible, with percentages allotted to candidates tallying up to more than 100%. The NDC has rejected the results as rigged.

Since last week Wednesday when the results were declared, the NDC has been demonstrating and protesting. Thousands keep turning up on streets in the various regions to march in protest of the results.

Meanwhile, the protests are steadily building in strength around the country. Today, thousands similarly turned up on streets in the Upper East Region to protest the election results.
