NDC Demands Akufo-Addo To Activate Presidential Transition Process

It is eleven (11) days to the 2020 Presidential and Parliamentary elections and President Akufo-Addo has not activated the Presidential transition process as required by law, warns the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).

At NDC, at a press conference held today accused the President of refusing to initiate a transition plan 30 days before a presidential election as required by law.

Director of Elections for the NDC, Elvis Afriyie Ankrah pointed out that Section 6 (1) of the Presidential Transition Act, 2012 (Act 845), requires the President to kick in motion the process of transition, thirty (30) days ahead of elections. 

“We are calling on President Akufo-Addo to trigger the transition process by preparing his handing over notes and also appoint a new Administrator-General to oversee the transition process within 24 hours after the declaration of results,’ Mr. Afriyie Ankrah said.

He added that the NDC had received information that the Administrator-General for the transition process has retired but President Akufo-Addo has refused to appoint a replacement, demanding that the President does the needful.

The NDC has likened President Akufo-Addo’s inaction on the transition process to Donald Trump in the USA refusing to start the transition process in the US.

The Presidential transition act states: “The Office of the President shall prepare a set of comprehensive handing-over notes covering the term of office of the president as the executive authority under article 58 of the constitution.”
