NDC Expels 18 Parliamentary Aspirants For Going Independent

The National Democratic Congress (NDC), has expelled eighteen (18) party members who have filed nominations with the Electoral Commission to contest as independent Parliamentary Candidates in the December general elections.

A statement signed by General Secretary of the NDC, Mr. Johnson Asiedu Nketia, said the actions of the 18 breaches the party’s membership rules.

“The National Democratic Congress(NDC) wishes to bring to the attention of all party members, sympathisers, and the general public that the following members who sought for and obtained nomination from the Electoral Commission to contest the upcoming parliamentary elections as Independent Candidates have forfeited their membership of the party”.

Among the 18 is Dominic Azimbe Azumah, a former minister and MP for Garu-Tempane in the Upper East Region.

Others are Valis Akyianu, who is contesting at Cape Coast North in the Central Region, Lawyer Ishmael Turkson, Agona West in the Central Region, Emmanuel Gdgo Gum, Upper Denkyira West, also in Central region, Auegabe S. Gibson Achavuusum, Builsa North and Isaac Newton Nyagbe who is contesting the Kpando seat in the Volta Region, among others.

“They must handover all party property in their possession to their respective constituency secretariats, and they must cease forthwith in the using party paraphernalia and the name of the flagbearer in all their campaigns,” the NDC statement read.

Apparently, some of these independent candidates are reportedly being sponsored by the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) to dilute the votes of the NDC in those constituencies.

Whatsup News has gathered from reliable sources that even the Special Prosecutor Martin Amidu is not left out in the slugfest, as he is reportedly sponsoring some independent candidates in the Upper East and Upper West Regions to dilute the front of the NDC.
