The Police in Wale Wale are making grotesque headlines after a supposed operation to enforce the Covid-19 directives against a drinking spot which had opened in defiance of the directives led to the shooting of a 15 year old boy in the buttocks.
The victim who was hit squarely in one cheek of his behind has since been hospitalized as the Police try to characterize him as a truant who had gone to the drinking spot to have fun.
However, people in the area have pooh-poohed the Police story saying the victim had been shot while on his way home from quranic classes.
Angry youth in the area have given the Police a week’s ultimatum to give up the trigger happy officer so he can be made to face justice or incur their wrath. They have since petitioned the Municipal Chief Executive there on the issue.
In their defense, the Police are claiming that they shot live bullets at a crowd of people which had gone to the bar for a party in spite of the Covid-19 restrictions against drinking bars operating.
Walewale District Commander Sup. Peter Akabati, claims that his men had come under gun fire from the crowd and only responded in self defense.
According to him, the police raided the drinking spot, which is sometimes used as a nightclub, after hundreds of people gathered for a party organised by the owners in defiance of the Covid-19 restrictions.
However, the crowd grew irate and attacked the Police first with gunshots forcing the officers to retaliate. The victim, was hit this way and has since been admitted at the Walewale Municipal Hospital.
However, the youth of the area deny that that was what happened and that the Police had shot the 15 year old in the buttocks while he was on his way home from koranic studies.
