My Father, Amidu, Is Hunting Me Like A Witch …Mahama Ayariga

Bawku Central MP, Mahama Ayariga has lamented that Special Prosecutor, Martin Amidu, whom he considers his father is hunting him like a witch.

In an interview with Accra based Joy News, Mr. Ayariga, whose tango with the Special Prosecutor, over alleged abuse of office, lolled suddenly when a court told the SP that his office did not have the mandate to prosecute Ayariga for majority of the offences he was going after him for, says the overreaching SP, in his blind energy, has not even taken time to consider the evidence that was provided to him.

“You can see that this person is not looking for the truth. This person is not out there to do justice. This person is just looking for Ayariga and thinks he had found Ayariga,” Mr. Ayariga said.

According to him, he does not know if he can qualify Martin Amidu’s actions with a witch hunt but that he really does feel that he is being hunted by a man he considers his father.

“Maybe it’s a father trying to teach his son how to cope with life situations,” he said adding, ““I feel haunted… There is no doubt about that.”

On March 22, 2019, the Special Prosecutor dragged Mahama Ayariga to court citing the Bawku Central MP for abuse of office.

According to the charge sheet, Mr. Ayariga had also evaded taxes in the clearance of vehicles and had illegally transferred foreign exchange from Ghana to Dubai without having the required license to undertake such a transaction.

However, in June that same year, the Accra High Court struck out three of the charges.

Another charge against a businessman who allegedly assisted the MP to evade taxes was also struck out.

According to the court, the particulars of those offences did not relate to corruption or corruption-related offences and were not under the remit of the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP).

The decision by the court, left Ayariga with the only option of answering to the charge of using public office for private benefit.
