Mahama Releases Cryptic Message After NDC Lost A String Of Cases At Court

Former President John Mahama has posted what appears to be a cryptic message following a recent pattern of losses that persons perceived to be affiliated with the National Democratic Congress (NDC) have been suffering in court.

On his Twitter handles, he posts an image of the Lady Justice, who is depicted by a blindfolded female with scales and outstretched sword, along with a quote from Louis Nizer portending future consequences for some people.

“When a man points a finger at someone else, he should remember that four of his fingers are pointing at himself” —Louis Nizer, “ Mr. Mahama wrote.

The commentary comes after three former appointees of the former President at the National Communications Authority were jailed for causing financial loss to the State.

Eugene Baffoe-Bonnie, the former Board Chair of the National Communication Authority (NCA); William Tetteh Tevie, former Director-General of the NCA; Alhaji Salifu Mimina Osman, a former Deputy National Security Coordinator, were jailed 6, 5 and 5 years each for allegedly causing financial loss to the State in the purchase of spyware, Pergasus, for the National Security.

The case had been punctuated with politics because the trial judge, Justice Eric Kyei Baffour, was alleged by one Kevin Taylor, to have received instructions from the Jubilee House to ensure that the former appointees are jailed by hook or crook.

The jailing which happened yesterday has since been followed with another Supreme Court judgment in a case brought against the Special Prosecutor, Martin Amidu by former Deputy Attorney General under Mahama, Dominic Ayine.

Ina 5 – 2 majority ruling, the Supreme Court judged that Amidu who had been 66 years when he was appointed as Special Prosecutor, is qualified to remain in office even though his age surpasses the 65 year age limit set in the law for public servants.

The judgment is seen to be a bad precedent that will make it possible for public servants of retirement age to continue to cleave to office in future.

This judgment follows a trend of losses that people affiliated to the NDC have been suffering in the courts ever since Akufo-Addo became President

Dynamic Youth Movement (DYMAOG)’s suit against Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta’s suspected abuse of office in the sale of the US$2.25billion bond to Franklin Templeton, an American company in which his business partner is a director, was also recently dismissed by the Supreme Court.

Prior to these, every other suit that members of the NDC have made against the State have been dismissed, including the President’s decision to hold a referendum in the part of the Volta Region that has now become Oti, without allowing all Voltarians to vote as had originally been prescribed by law.

People who have seen the former President’s message view it to be a sigh of frustration, but also a message that portends future consequences for those currently at the helm of affairs.
