The noose appears to be tightening around the neck of Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi
In a startling exposé, a former NPP constituency chairman has thrown down the gauntlet, urging President John Dramani Mahama to unleash the full force of the state on the controversial regional boss.
Kwasi Nti Asamoah, the firebrand ex-Formena constituency chairman, has publicly declared war on Wontumi, alleging a shocking litany of transgressions that he claims have brought shame to both party and nation. Asamoah is demanding ruthless action, insisting that justice must be served!
In an explosive outburst on a Kumasi-based Angel FM, the angry ex-NPP strongman accused Chairman Wontumi of scandalous behavior.
“He and his aide, Andy, when they had money, it was people’s wives they were using dollars to snatch” Asamoah fumed, claiming Wontumi’s alleged philandering directly contributed to the NDC’s surprising 36% vote haul in the Ashanti Region during the last general election.
But the accusations don’t stop there. Asamoah leveled a damning charge against Wontumi concerning funds from the Microfinance and Loans Centre (MASLOC), specifically earmarked for vulnerable women.
“The MASLOC issue I was talking about, it was small loans like 500, 200 for women, you have lumped everything and taken it away…” he alleged, suggesting widespread misappropriation.
The former constituency chairman further claimed that Wontumi pocketed funds meant for critical road projects in the Ashanti Region, particularly in areas like Bompata, near Afia Kobi SHS. These roads, Asamoah insists, remain uncompleted despite the alleged payment.
And the rot, according to Asamoah, deepens! He also pointed fingers at an alleged Ghana Exim Bank loan, intended for maize cultivation, which he claims was never executed.
“You are not a minister before but you want for Exim Bank loan that was purposely for maize cultivation, you did not do it,” he challenged, demanding Wontumi account for the funds. “He must pay back the funds for the state”
Asamoah warned any NPP member rallying behind Wontumi over recent calls for him to account for his dealings, stating, “Any NPP organizer or chairman who heeds to this call doesn’t know what he is about, this is not how NPP behaves.”
$50 Million Mystery and Party Funds Diverted?
In another bombshell revelation, Nti Asamoah, who voluntarily resigned from his position in 2020, alleged that Wontumi received a staggering $50 million in contract funds, for which he is yet to account.
Even more shocking, Asamoah claimed Wontumi allegedly took $1 million per constituency from the NPP itself, but these crucial party funds never reached the grassroots
Turning his attention to the party’s regional infrastructure, Asamoah lamented the pathetic state of the NPP’s Ashanti regional office.
Despite the region being the party’s “world bank,” he claimed important meetings are relegated to hotels. Ironically, he pointed out, the NDC’s “world bank” in the Volta Region boasts a far superior NPP regional office than Ashanti
“If NDC Doesn’t Deal With Him, They Are IDIOTS!”
Nti Asamoah, unwavering in his resolve to speak truth to power, dared the Mahama government to thoroughly investigate all his allegations. He vowed to be “left disappointed” if the government fails to deliver justice, boldly declaring, “Anyone that has looted this country, if the NDC doesn’t deal with that person then they are idiots”
He further alleged that contracts earmarked for constituencies were all “hijacked” by the beleaguered regional chairman. Emphasizing that his outspokenness has nothing to do with party unity, Asamoah declared, “Should we keep quiet because of party so that the country will be destroyed?”
“The gentleman, he should be taken away, whoever that follows him that person is also a thief. They should abandon, he said he is fearful,” Asamoah concluded, sending a chilling message to Chairman Wontumi and his alleged enablers.
The political landscape in the Ashanti Region just got a whole lot hotter
