Top brass of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) have reportedly staged a covert operation targeting former Member of Parliament (MP) Adwoa Safo, effectively blocking her from a scheduled television interview.
The high-ranking NPP officials strategically intercepted Safo as she was preparing to attend a televised discussion on Kessben FM/radio this morning, Friday, March 21. They arrived unannounced in a convoy of three Toyota Land Cruisers, halting her plans for media engagement.
A public announcement from Kessben television declared, “BREAKING: Hon. Sarah Adwoa Safo ambushed by NPP leadership at her residence, preventing her from honoring scheduled TV interview.”
This contentious maneuver evokes memories of a 2013 incident during former President John Dramani Mahama’s inauguration, where the late general secretary Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, known as Sir John, led a disruptive protest at former President John Agyekum Kufuor’s residence.
The move by NPP bigwigs transpired shortly after the party issued a stern warning to Safo and other members, urging them to refrain from divulging confidential party matters to the media. Furthermore, Safo has been summoned to the Disciplinary Committee for her recent public statements against the party’s integrity.
During her comprehensive media campaign, Safo accused NPP figures, including former President Akufo-Addo and late Gertrude Quashigah, of corruption and slander. She highlighted personal grievances over attempts to besmirch her reputation and undermine her political career during the last election cycle.
Despite her resolve to step away from electoral politics, Safo disclosed in a recent interview that only her father has the influence to persuade her to reconsider. She foresees a future focused on leadership roles within Parliament, potentially aspiring to the positions of Speaker, Vice President, or even President.
