National Security springs into action as flames engulf shops in Kumasi’s heart of Adum this Friday.
Following a quick response by Regional Minister Dr Frank Amoakohene and his security team, heavy-duty machinery is rolled in to aid the struggling fire service as they battle the blaze.
But just as the situation seemed dire, a swift exit by Dr Amoakohene was prompted with news of President John Mahama’s imminent arrival.
President Mahama, en route for a scheduled tree planting event, is expected to assess the damage later today upon landing in the city.
In a bid to tackle the inferno, bulldozers and excavators from the Regional Coordinating Council are dispatched to assist the overwhelmed Ghana National Fire Service. Access issues persist due to blocked paths, hindering firefighting efforts.
With military support on the way, authorities are pulling out all the stops to clear obstacles and contain the spreading flames, which have already consumed much of the area toward Roman Hill.
As the battle rages on, officials estimate another few hours before the fire is under control. Stay tuned for more updates as the situation unfolds.
