Ghana Airport Employees Call for Removal of MD

Workers at the Ghana Airport Company Ltd (GACL) are petitioning President John Dramani Mahama to dismiss Managing Director Mrs. Yvonne Nana Afriyie Opare from her role with immediate effect.

The employees, who have been voicing their concerns since July of last year, argue that Mrs. Opare’s ongoing tenure as MD is detrimental to both industrial relations and the ethical governance of state institutions.

They criticize Mrs. Opare’s leadership style, accusing her of engaging in favoritism, cronyism, and nepotism in managing the organization and its staff. Of particular contention is the swift promotion of an individual named Lisa Hayfron, said to be a relative of the MD, from a contract worker to the role of assistant manager within a remarkably brief timeframe.

This promotion bypassed longstanding employees with higher qualifications and more experience, raising suspicions of undue influence and unfair practices within the company.

Furthermore, allegations suggest that Mrs. Opare may have been politically influenced in her decision-making, allegedly favoring individuals aligned with the previous NPP regime in promotions without following transparent internal processes.

The employees express concern that retaining the current MD could perpetuate a culture of corruption and hinder accountability for past mismanagement within the company.

In response to these grievances, the workers are urging President Mahama to take immediate action in replacing Mrs. Opare with a new leader who can bring a fresh perspective and accountability to the organization.
