Africa’s Economic Potential: Intra-Africa Trade Could Eliminate Need for IMF Loans, Says Dr. G.A Pele

By Sharon Frimpomaa Opoku

Africa stands on the brink of economic transformation, with intra-Africa trade emerging as a key strategy to unlock billions in economic opportunities.

Renowned banker and lecturer, Dr. G.A Pele, asserts that maximizing intra-Africa trade has the potential to render International Monetary Fund (IMF) loans obsolete.

Participating in The African Future Series on the Wake Up Africa morning show on Dominion TV alongside host Korku Lumor, Dr. Pele explored critical issues facing the continent, notably trade barriers.

He emphasized the importance of seamless borders to facilitate cross-border trade among African nations, urging governments to leverage the vast economic potential within the continent.

“Within intra-African trade lies untapped billions that could liberate individual African nations from dependency on IMF or World Bank interventions.

By adopting a strategic blueprint and committing to its implementation, Africa can truly soar to new heights,” remarked Dr. Pele. Moreover, Dr. Pele highlighted the disproportionate focus of the media on negative narratives about Africa, contrasting it with the less highlighted challenges prevalent in Western societies, such as corruption and electoral issues.

“I challenge the prevailing narrative that Africa is riddled with corruption and electoral malpractices. The reality is that such issues are equally, if not more pronounced, in Western nations.

The problem lies in the media’s emphasis on negativity rather than highlighting the positive developments on the continent,” Dr. Pele emphasized.

The Wake Up Africa morning show on Dominion TV has cemented its status as Ghana’s premier morning television program, spearheaded by the dynamic duo of Korku Lumor and Precious Bia Dela.
