…Only 3 Completed and Not Operational, Reveals Kwakye Ofosu
In a startling revelation, it has been disclosed that out of the ambitious 111 hospital projects initiated by the previous New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration, a mere three (3) have been completed.
What’s more, none of these completed hospitals were operational at the time of handover to the John Mahama-led transitional team.
According to Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the Minister of State designated for Government Communications, the country is facing a substantial challenge with the Agenda 111 projects.
Speaking on TV3’s Keypoints program, he lamented that not a single facility under this initiative is currently in a position to admit patients.
The gravity of the situation is further underscored by the staggering $1.4 billion price tag that would be required to finish all the hospital projects scattered nationwide.
Addressing the pressing issue, Kwakye Ofosu emphasized that a substantial amount of approximately GHc30 billion would need to be sourced for completion, with several projects still in various stages of progress.
The mantle now falls on the incoming Minister designated for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, to grapple with finding solutions and completing these vital projects.
Furthermore, efforts must be directed towards bolstering the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) to ensure it is adequately funded to cover healthcare claims for millions of subscribers.
In a bid for transparency and accountability, President Mahama has charged his ministers with the responsibility of openly communicating with the Ghanaian populace about the true state of affairs within their respective sectors.
This commitment to candid disclosure aims to inform the populace candidly and foster a sense of shared responsibility in addressing these critical challenges.
As the new administration navigates these hurdles, the wellbeing and healthcare needs of the Ghanaian people remain paramount.
The road ahead may be arduous, but with concerted efforts and unwavering dedication, the nation can surmount these obstacles and safeguard the health and welfare of its citizens.
