Mahama Appoints Julius Debrah as Co-Chair of Transition Team

Former Chief of Staff Julius Debrah has been appointed by President-elect John Dramani Mahama as the co-chair of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) transition team.

The former Minister for Local Government and Rural Development previously served in the same capacity during the 2016 elections when the NDC lost power.

President-elect Mahama, who has pledged to hit the ground running, made this decision in accordance with the provisions of the Presidential (Transition) Act, 2012 (Act 845).

The team will collaborate closely with representatives from the outgoing government to ensure a smooth transfer of political power to the incoming administration.

Comprising experienced individuals from various sectors such as finance, governance, and public administration, the Transition Team includes key figures like national chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketia, general secretary Fifi Kwetey, Dr. Callista Mahama as secretary, Dr. Valerie Sawyerr, and Prof Kwamena Ahwoi. Additional members are Minority leader in Parliament Cassiel Ato Baah Forson, former Minister for Youth and Sports Mahama Ayariga, Goosie Tanoh, and Director of Election and IT Dr. Edward Kofi Omane Boamah.

Furthermore, President Mahama nominated former Speaker of Parliament Edward Doe Adjaho as a member of the Transitional Advisory Council.

This development follows closely on the heels of the president-elect’s recent announcement that he and President Akufo-Addo have agreed to commence the transition process on Wednesday, December 11.

In parallel, the government side of the Transition Team has been appointed by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in accordance with the Presidential (Transition) Act, 2012 (Act 845). The team includes the Head of the Presidential Staff, along with key individuals such as the Head of Civil Service Dr. Evans Aggrey-Darkoh, the Head of the Local Government Service Dr. Nana Ato Arthur, the Secretary to the Cabinet Ambassador Mercy Debrah-Karikari, and the National Security Coordinator Mr. Edward Asomani.

The Team is set to be officially inaugurated on Wednesday, December 11, with the President and President-elect serving as Co-Chairpersons, where the President has authorized Hon. Akosua Frema Osei-Opare to act in his absence.

Additionally, the former Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Prof. Aaron Mike Oquaye, has been appointed to the Advisory Council, chaired by the Speaker of Parliament Rt. Hon. Alban Bagbin.

In a statement released earlier this evening, the President-elect unveiled the members of his team, emphasizing their responsibility to facilitate a seamless and effective transfer of executive authority to ensure governance stability and continuity.

The President has reiterated his dedication to facilitating a smooth transition process.
