Ga Central Assembly’s former PM accused of misusing health facility

Mr George Nana Adu-Darko, the former Presiding Member (PM) of the Ga Central Municipal Assembly in the Greater Accra Region, is facing accusations of allocating the Olebu Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compound as accommodation for his girlfriend.

The allegations were made by Rapheal Apetorgbor, the Deputy Communications Officer for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Anyaa- Sowutuom Constituency.

Mr Apetorgbor claims that the health facility, which was established to provide primary healthcare services to the Olebu community, is being misused for personal purposes, raising serious ethical and administrative concerns.

He further alleged that since 2017, following the transition of governance to the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia administration, two families affiliated with the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have been residing in the facility.

The accusations were made during Mr Apetorgbor’s appearance on TV3’s Community Manifesto programme, which focuses on presenting candidates’ policies and visions ahead of the 2024 general elections.

The programme aims to bring political discussions to the grassroots level, helping voters make informed decisions.

In an interview on the sidelines of the programme, Mr Apetorgbor emphasized that the Olebu CHPS compound, completed under the NDC’s administration, was meant to serve the healthcare needs of the community.

He expressed concern that diverting its use for personal accommodation has deprived residents of essential services.

He called for a thorough investigation to ensure accountability and transparency in the administration of public assets.

In response, Mr Ambrose Tsegah, the Municipal Chief Executive for Ga Central Municipal Assembly, who also appeared on the programme, defended Mr George Adu-Darko by stating that the facility in question was built on a waterlogged area.

However, both Mr Adu-Darko and Mr Tsegah did not directly address Mr Apetorgbor’s specific allegations.

The programme also saw Mr Emmanuel Tobbin, the NPP’s Parliamentary Candidate, decline participation in the debate due to a language barrier.

Mr Tobbin insisted that the debate should be conducted in Twi, a request opposed by the NDC candidate, Emmanuel Adotey Allotey, who did participate.
