‘Friends of Ken’ Lay Out Conditions for Supporting Bawumia, NPP

Campaign Supporters of Assin Central constituency Member of Parliament (MP) Ken Ohene Agyapong, known as the ‘Friends of Ken,’ have outlined their terms for joining the campaign of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in upcoming elections.

Despite initially backing Bawumia’s campaign, the group has made it clear that they will not actively support or vote for the party until a particular issue is resolved.

This issue revolves around the demolition of a series of buildings reportedly belonging to the MP’s brother, George Oti Bonsu. Accusing Second Lady Samira Bawumia and her brother, the group insists that a public acknowledgement of the issue and an apology are necessary before they will consider backing the NPP’s campaign efforts.

The ‘Friends of Ken’ also pointed fingers at the NPP flagbearer, President Akufo-Addo, suggesting that the demolition was a targeted act of malice against Agyapong, who gave Bawumia significant competition during the presidential primaries.

The group has threatened to organize a large demonstration in the weeks leading up to the election if their demands are not met.

Speaking on behalf of the group, a prominent member named Nana Nyarko emphasized that they remain loyal to the NPP but will only support the campaign if their concerns are addressed promptly.

Nyarko expressed dismay at the treatment of Ken Agyapong and Oti Bonsu, highlighting concerns that loyal supporters and financiers of the party are being unfairly targeted.

The group’s ultimatum includes a written appeal to Bawumia and the party leadership, signaling that failure to respond adequately will result in a significant protest and a boycott of the party in the upcoming election.

The ‘Friends of Ken’ underscore the importance of resolving the building demolition issue as a prerequisite for their continued support.

They criticize what they perceive as deliberate hostility toward Agyapong and his associates, warning that such actions could alienate key supporters and damage party unity.

Allegations of mistreatment and victimization within the party add to the tension, with Nyarko insisting on a fair resolution to prevent further division and discontent among supporters.

The group remains firm in their stance, emphasizing that their loyalty to the NPP is contingent on addressing their grievances in a satisfactory manner.
