Renowned journalist Kwesi Pratt has cautioned NDC members against prematurely clamoring for the prosecution of corrupt appointees under President Akufo-Addo, a move spearheaded by leader John Dramani Mahama in anticipation of the upcoming polls.
During an enlightening lecture commemorating the late Prof. John Evans Atta Mills, Pratt highlighted the daunting challenges a potential future NDC government would face in holding these implicated officials accountable.
He forewarned of partisan judges and entrenched state institutions vehemently opposing any prosecution efforts, drawing parallels to the frustrations Prof. Mills encountered during his tenure.
“Prosecuting the wrongdoers in the current administration won’t be a walk in the park,” Pratt cautioned, shedding light on the obstacles hindering accountability.
With an eye on the grander scheme of governance, Pratt urged prioritizing pressing issues affecting Ghanaians’ daily lives above pursuing past wrongs.
Joining the chorus of skepticism, US-based lecturer Prof. Duke Amaniampong enumerated ten critical obstacles obstructing the path to prosecuting alleged corrupt officials.
Expressing doubt over the feasibility of these high hopes for accountability, the professor pinpointed systemic resistance and inadequate resources as key deterrents.
At this critical juncture, concerns linger over the impartiality of the judicial system, potential interference from vested interests, and the looming shadow of a transitioning political landscape.
As the nation braces for a tumultuous electoral season, uncertainties surrounding the pursuit of justice loom large, casting a cloud over the prospect of holding the powerful to account.
