Claims Bryan Acheampong was Secretly Buying 6 State Hotels Behind the Back of Parliament
Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has revealed that alleged moves by the Food and Agriculture Minister, Bryan Acheampong to buy controlling stakes in six state hotels, was in stealth.
Acheampong, who is also the MP for Abetifi, was apparently making the purchase behind the back of his colleague MPs and even the Speaker of Parliament whose permission is required before an MP can engage in profita making business.
“In my petition, I am inviting CHRAJ to investigate grave matters bothering on conflict of interest, abuse of power, lack of due process, procurement breaches, cronyism, and graft.”
“I have also drawn attention to blatant violations of Article 78(3) and 98(2) of the 1992 Constitution as diligent checks from Parliament’s Committee on Office of Profit reveal that Hon. Bryan Acheampong has not applied and does not have the permission of the Speaker of Parliament to hold an office of profit,” Ablakwa reveals.
The North Tongu MP explains that the alleged purchase violates constitutional provisions, citing Articles 78(3) and 98(2) of the 1992 Constitution.
The revelation adds to the shadiness around Bryan Acheampong’s alleged move to acquire controlling stake of 60% in six hotels owned by the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) through his private company Rock City Hotel Limited.
The hotels in question are the Labadi Beach Hotel, La Palm Royal Beach Resort, Elmina Beach Resort, Ridge Royal Hotel, Busua Beach Resort, and the Trust Lodge Hotel.
Hon. Okudzeto Ablakwa has already petitioned CHRAJ to look into the alleged sale, asking that the Agric Minister be probed for conflict of interest, abuse of power, lack of due process, procurement breaches, cronyism, and graft.
