Police Crack Down on Extortion of Foreign Truck Drivers

Directive Issued Amid Rising Concerns” In response to reports of foreign truck drivers facing extortion and harassment, the Ghana Police Service has taken action to address the issue.

A recent wireless message sent to all regional commanders emphasized the need to put an end to such practices happening nationwide.

The directive, issued on April 5, 2024, specifically focuses on trucks with foreign number plates traveling on various routes, including those from Tema harbour to Paga, Tema to Elubo, and other specified locations.

These trucks are urged to adhere to designated customs check points for proper inspection by customs officials.

While the directive aims to curb unlawful activities, concerns have been raised about potential smuggling risks. With the upcoming general elections in mind, there is a crucial need for vigilance to prevent any illicit goods, including weapons, from being trafficked into the country.

The issued directive serves as a proactive measure to ensure the safety and security of all individuals, while also preventing any potential disruptions to the peace and stability of the nation.
