Allegations have emerged painting a troubling picture of misconduct within the Economic Organized Crime Office (EOCO).
According to private legal practitioner and youth activist Oliver Barker-Vormawor, EOCO has transformed into a breeding ground for criminal activities rather than a force for justice.
In a scathing critique, Barker-Vormawor accused EOCO officials of engaging in extortion and turning a blind eye to wrongdoing within their own ranks.
He lambasted the agency’s leadership, led by former CID Chief Maame Tiwa Addo Dankwa, for failing to hold corrupt officers accountable. Painting a grim outlook for
Ghana’s anti-corruption efforts, Barker-Vormawor lamented that the very individuals entrusted with upholding the law are now perpetrators of unlawful behavior.
He highlighted instances where EOCO officers reportedly targeted individuals for extortion, particularly focusing on internet fraudsters known as Sakawa boys.
Revealing disturbing conversations with EOCO insiders, Barker-Vormawor expressed disbelief at the extent of corruption within the agency.
He criticized EOCO for prioritizing unethical practices over genuine law enforcement, claiming that the country’s fight against corruption is at a standstill.
In a bold declaration, Barker-Vormawor called for urgent reform within EOCO and the police force, emphasizing the need for accountability and ethical conduct at all levels of law enforcement.
His words serve as a stark warning that without immediate action, Ghana’s democracy and integrity are at risk.
