Aisha Huang Denied Bail

Notorious Chinese illegal miner, Aisha Huang, was today denied bail by the Accra Circuit Court 9.

She, together with three others she is standing trial with – Jong Li Hua, Huang Jei and Hai Hun, were refused bail by the court presided over by His Honor Samuel Bright Appiah .

They have all been charged with mining without a valid license and engaging in the sale and purchase of minerals without a permit.

The Prosecution said it needed time to finish off the investigation. To this, defence lawyer, Nkrabea Effah Dartey, wondered what investigation was left to be done.

He reminded the court that the accused persons had already been remanded for 14 days and questioned extensively.

Lawyer Effah-Darteh also accused Attorney General, Godfred Dame, of using the Bar Conference to solicit the judiciary’s court the Judiciary’s sympathy for the state.

He accused the AG leader of the Ghanaian bar of prejudice, urging the court to grant his client bail.

He told the court that denying bail would play out in the media as the court bending to the whims of President Nana Akufo-Addo and his Attorney General, Godfred Yeboah Dame.

The court however said the matter had become an issue of public interest at home and abroad.

Consequently, His Honour Samuel Appiah remanded them back into custody to reappear on September 27, 2022.

Meanwhile, during the proceedings, one of the accused persons, charged alongside En Huang, Jong Li Hua, collapsed in the course of the hearing.
