OSP Investigating A False Whistleblower Against Atta Akyea

The Special Prosecutor’s office is investigating a man who faked a corruption case against Abuakwa South MP, Samuel Atta Akyea.

Daniel Kwasi Amponiy in December 2021, fabricated a claim that Atta Akyea had perpetrated malfeasance to the tune of US$81billion in connection with some Housing contracts while Atta Akyea was still the Minister for Housing.

However, the Special Prosecutor would later find out the allegation was fake, with the complainant self-confessing that he had been paid to frame the MP.

The revelation is contained in the SP’s half-yearly report released to the public on Tuesday.

“In July 2022, the Office terminated an investigation into a complaint of alleged financial malfeasance filed against the Member of Parliament for Abuakwa South for lack of evidence. The complainant admitted that he filed the complaint without any basis and that he was paid to fabricate the content of the complaint. The complainant and his accomplices are under investigation for filing the complaint with the singular aim of tarnishing the reputation of the respondent,” the Special Prosecutor said in his half-yearly report for the first half of 2022.
