A leading member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Hopeson Yaovi Adorye, has revealed that the ruling party’s grassroots want Trade Minister, Alan John Kwadwo Kyeremanten, to succeed President Akufo-Addo party leader and presidential flagbearer.
He made the revelation in Kumasi over the weekend, when he joined the youth of Asanteman, the backbone of the NPP, to stage a health walk dubbed, “Aduro Woso” (it is now your turn) in support of the popular Trade Minister.
“The grassroots are yearning for Alan Kyerematen. They keep saying that he should resign from the government and declare his intention for party business to go on,” said Mr. Adorye.
Hopeson further went on to say that the role of a northerner presidential hopeful in the NPP is for them to serve as Vice President in keeping with party tradition called the Danquah-Busia-Dombo tradition.
Hopeson Adorye is a militant NPP apparatchik who recently dominated headlines for carrying out dirty espionage for President Akufo-Addo in the hotel room of the President’s girlfriend, Serwaa Broni.
By declaring his stance, Adorye may have crossed the line against President Akufo-Addo who is being reported to be grooming Vice President Bawumia as his successor, despite being of a northern stock.
For many, Bawumia has been a complete disaster and a poster boy for the ineptitude that has led to Ghana’s economic collapse.
